Showy White Trillium

The Spring flowering White Trillium grows wild
in the woodlands of Michigan.
It is a protected plant --
it is illegal to pick or transplant the trillium
growing on public lands without a permit from the state.

The flowers photographed here are growing in
the wooded area of my yard.
The plants were purchased from a nursery and
planted in an environment
that is similar to their natural habitat.

This year, the flowers are blooming
about a month earlier than typical
due to the unusually warm weather
we have been experiencing.

Here are two other varieties of trillium.
The flower buds have emerged but have not yet opened.
Will revisit these blooms during a later post.

Hope you enjoyed this brief glimpse of Spring in Michigan.

Until next time, live and love well.

Hi Debra!

Trillium are such pretty little plants. Years ago when I lived in Washington State I transplanted some to my yard. I hope that I didn't do anything illegal... They were growing everywhere out in the foothills. They made great plants under my TALL fir trees.

We would go out and get ferns, and foxglove too. We really like to find conks (hard topped fungus/mushroom like things that grow on the trunks of trees)and write names, dates and maybe a little drawing on the soft velvety underside. When they dried they made great tabletop decorations/souvenirs.

Thanks for sharing this at my party!

I love trillium, I used to have some in my side yard years ago so they bring back memories. Thanks for sharing.
