The second Saturday in June is recognized as World Doll Day.
The day was established in 1986 by Mildred Seeley
to spread the universal message
of happiness and love around the world.
It is a celebration of caring, nurturing love.
Dolls have been a traditional tool for teaching these skills.
Although the day is an opportunity to give a doll
to someone close to you,
World Doll Day was also intended to be a day to exhibit dolls.
In that spirit, I am showcasing
one of my dearly loved childhood dolls.
Do you remember Tiny Tears?
Tiny Tears was one of the most popular baby dolls
during the 1950s and early 1960s.
In this close-up photo you will notice the two holes
on each side of the bridge of the doll's nose.
This feature allowed Tiny Tears to cry real tears.
After feeding her a bottle of water,
a gentle squeeze of her tummy would result
in tears streaming from these openings.
My doll is dressed in a silky blue coat and bonnet.
Beneath her coat, she wears a simple pink dress.
The button hints at the original brighter dress color.
The fabric has mellowed to a soft salmon pink.
Tiny Tears will always be a special keepsake of my childhood.

I had a Tiny Tears as a child, and she was a definite favorite of mine. Have no idea what happened to her, or any of my dolls. :( Yours looks pristine! Thanks for the memory.
Oh, tiny tears is so sweet and special! I wish I had some keepsakes from my childhood.
I remember my Thumbellina doll and my chatty cathy, too. She is a great treasure and just perfect for a doll maker!

Yes. I had a Tiny Tears Dolly too. The rubber body finally fell apart, but I kept her head. I hope to transform the dolly head into a mixed media doll piece using a cast-off white vintage baby shoe. I took a Mixed Media doll making class in 2008, from JoAnnA Pierotti of Moss Hill Studio blog. She taught us how to paint sweet, tiny roses across the forehead of a dolly. I hope to paint the doll's face first, with a light flesh color and then add the painted roses. I will glue the dolly head down into the vintage show and embellish with vintage laces and ribbons. And alas, JoAnna Pierotti passed away this past Spring. Please do come visit my blog and view an older post in memory of JoAnnA.

I still have my Tiny Tears doll but she isn't in anywhere near the great shape yours is in. She definitely shows the signs of a well-loved life. Thanks for the memories!
Hi Debra, I still remember Tiny Tears. Your doll is just darling and I love her clothes. I had a doll which I shared with my sisters and she was left behind when we moved many years ago. We were supposed to get her but the people who rented our home took all the treasures we left in the attic. So sad. However, we know life goes on and that is a good thing.

Now I officially feel old. My sister and I each had a soft body doll and I can not remember their names! I can think of all the popular names, Chatty Cathy, Wetsy Betsy, Thumbellina - not one of those, and I still have her. Will she forgive me for forgetting her name?
I'm not sure I've ever seen a Tiny Tears doll.... but thank you for showing how she works... I will be on the lookout for vintage Tiny Tears dolls now. :)
Yours looks like you kept very good care of her. How sweet! I only have Barbies left, a hand puppet, and a Raggedy Ann doll. I have no idea what happened to my Baby Alive from the 1970's.
